Henry Mancini (April 16, 1924 – June 14, 1994) was an American composer, conductor, and arranger best known for his film and television scores — particularly for The Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Peter Gunn. He won four Academy Awards and 20 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most awarded composers in history .Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Italian immigrant parents, Mancini studied music at Julliard and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he played clarinet and saxophone in military bands. After the war, he worked as an arranger for bands led by Stan Kenton and later for film studios, eventually becoming a key figure at Universal Pictures . His breakthrough came with the theme for the TV series Peter Gunn (1958), which blended jazz with orchestral arrangements — a style that defined his career. He composed the iconic Pink Panther Theme (1963) and the melancholic Moon River for Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), which won him Oscars for Best Original Song and Best Original Score .
