Out of the Cool was recorded a short time after Evans completed
a six-week job at the Jazz Gallery club in New York
City; the personnel was largely the same he had used
there (including such stars as Jimmy Knepper, Budd
Johnson, Johnny Coles and Ron Carter), with the
addition of Elvin Jones.
About the artist
Ian Ernest Gilmore Evans was a Canadian–American jazz pianist, arranger, composer and bandleader. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest orchestrators in jazz, playing an important role in the development of cool jazz, modal jazz, free jazz, and jazz fusion.
