Although recorded in 1963, the LP first saw the light in 1985. Live at the Harlem Square Club easily stands the test of time next to albums such as James Brown's Live at the Apollo or Jackie Wilson's Live at the Copa. In 2003, the album was ranked number 443 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Sam Cooke was an American gospel/R&B/soul/pop singer, songwriter and entrepreneur. He is recognized as one of the founders of soul music and one of the most important singers in soul music history. Born on January 22, 1931 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, USA, he tragically passed away on December 11, 1964 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Although details about his death are still disputed, official police records state that he was killed by a gunshot. Sam Cooke was also inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 (Performer) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987.
