About the artist
Louis Allen Rawls (December 1, 1933 – January 6, 2006) was an American baritone singer, actor, and producer whose velvety voice transcended genres including gospel, jazz, soul, and R&B. Born in Chicago and raised on the city's South Side in the Ida B. Wells housing projects, Rawls was brought up by his grandmother after his father abandoned the family. He began singing in a Baptist church choir at age seven, and as a teenager formed a gospel group called the Teenage Kings of Harmony with his close friend Sam Cooke.
