The group were lead by Sonny Charles who later had a solo hit with "Put It In A Magazine". The two songs "All Alone By The Telephone" and "Body Language" were arranged and produced by H.B. Barnum and comprise their one release for Polydor in 1976. An original sell for around ?125. H.B Barnum later produced a version of the song "All Alone By The Telephone" on J.B. Bingham.

The Checkmates, Ltd. were an American R&B group from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The group, discovered by Nancy Wilson, included both black and white members; their one major hit was 1969's "Black Pearl", produced by Phil Spector. The song peaked at No. 13 on the U.S. pop chart.
