Stardust was released in 1963 and was recorded with musicians including pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and drummers Jimmy Cobb and Art Taylor. The album features some standard cover tunes but the laying of Coltrane in particular is so standout that he manages to really elevate each one. The hard-bop arrangements are all engaging from front to back and packed with subtlety to make them all the more emotive with each new listen.

John William Coltrane was an American jazz saxophonist, bandleader and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Born and raised in North Carolina, Coltrane moved to Philadelphia after graduating from high school, where he studied music.
