THE LISTENING ROOM

The Listening Room Event

A night in The Listening Room is all about slowing down and fully enjoying music. Each month, we highlight a carefully chosen LP, giving you the chance to experience it from start to finish in a relaxed, intimate setting.

Below you'll find details of our next event and the LP we are featuring. You can buy an LP & Ticket bundle, or just the LP or Ticket.

The Listening Room Event #1 - Spirit of Eden

The Listening Room Event #1 - Spirit of Eden

The LP:

Widely regarded as a masterpiece, Spirit of Eden diverged sharply from Talk Talk’s synth-pop origins. The album ventures into an entirely new sonic territory, one that would later help define the foundations of post-rock.

Crafted over nearly a year, the record emerged from lengthy, improvised studio sessions, resulting in a deeply textured fusion of jazz, ambient minimalism, and atmospheric rock. Its spacious production, organic instrumentation, and dynamic contrasts make it an album that truly reveals itself in an attentive, immersive setting.

This version of the album, released on 6 February '26, will be cut at half-speed for the first time at Metropolis Studios, following up from the half-speed master of It’s My  Life at the end of 2024.

The Event:

We would like to host 12-15 of you on a weekday early evening, dim the lights, even offer you a blackout eye mask and then drop the needle for an incredibly deep listening experience.

For this one, we'll be accompanied by musician and music journalist Jim Irvin, who will join us for a chat about his experience interviewing the band. Not only was Jim a founding editor at MOJO magazine – to which he still contributes every month – Jim was also the singer in Furniture, contemporaries of Talk Talk in the ‘80s, in fact the next band booked into Wessex Studios after Spirit of Eden was recorded.

He also conducted one of the last published interviews with Mark Hollis and spoke to the rest of the band, their producer, engineer and manager for a major retrospective on them for MOJO in 2008.

As this is our first Listening Event we have no idea how many of you want to join us but have capped tickets to 30 (so probably 2 evenings) and these will be on a first come first served basis -  so don't hang around!  The evenings are likely to be Wed 11 and Thurs 12 February but we will confirm specifics once we know demand, and have the LP release date confirmed.

You can buy the LP or a ticket individually, or save money and bundle them together. See below for all the options.

What To Expect On The Night?

Expect an evening of familiar faces gathering together to share in the joy of quality music discovery! Specifically, we will (re)open the shop doors at 6.30pm to welcome you in and give you all the chance to catch up with each other over a drink. We will then move downstairs to the Listening Room at 7pm to show you to your seat.

After introducing the album, we will turn the lights down, offer you an eye mask and invite complete silence in advance of dropping the needle to give you the opportunity to disappear into the music. The evening will then last for as long as the album!
