A defining recording of the era, Sikyi Highlife bridges tradition and innovation at a pivotal moment in Ghanaian music. Deeply rooted in the classic 1950s–’60s highlife sound, K. Behind Karen’s pulsating spectral voice lies vulnerability, contemplation and longing. Chameleon-like foundations explore cumbia in its many forms, crossing the continent with Norteño airs, pitched-down rebajados, psychedelia and even traditional Peruvian music, taking in ballads, Afro-Latin percussion, reggaeton and the more electronic sounds of dream-pop, trip hop and downtempo.

Recorded in New York in 1967, Silk & Soul is Nina Simone’s second album for RCA. The album features "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free", which would become a Civil Rights anthem, "It Be’s That Way Sometimes", written by her brother Sam Waymon, and "The Turning Point", a song that seems to be about a child making a new friend, but turns out to question the origins of racism

A rhythm-driven, analog-leaning record built from hypnotic basslines, warm synth textures, and layered percussion, “Simulacra” is the debut LP from Venetian bassist and producer Eric Demuro, a fully realized studio statement that brings his compositional voice into focus. The album moves through hazy jazz-funk, ambient passages, library psychedelia, and Brazilian rhythmic language without settling into revivalism. Fender Rhodes figures, hand percussion, and vintage keyboards drift through spacious arrangements that favor tone and movement over density, creating a sound that feels tactile, patient, and quietly

Deep Nyabinghi drumming and chanting on a version of the Ethiopian national anthem gets things underway on Slave Call, a majestic journey through the spiritual roots of reggae. Later songs add guitars, bass, keyboards, and horns to build a more standard reggae sound on that foundation, but there’s always a dignified restraint and the profundity of the nyabinghi beat. the entire album revolves around Leonard Dillon’s Rastafarian beliefs, with even the cover of the Beatles’ “Let It Be” rewritten to a religious end.

Granz and Holiday chose familiar items from the Great American Songbook of classic pop for the album, Holiday singing in the context comfortable for her, that of a small jazz band. The original album consisted of six standards, five of which by songwriters who would be categorically tackled by Ella Fitzgerald on her Songbooks series. The sessions reunited Holiday with trumpeter Harry Edison and saxophonist Ben Webster, both of whom the singer had worked with during the 1930s and 1940s, Edison as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra during her brief stay as the band's girl singer, and Webster from the recordings under her own name for Vocalion Records and Okeh Records.
