It's Time
When revolutionaries make their first impact, it is often their last as any early passion for change in culture and society damps down with age and maturity. The late Max Roach however remained eager to experiment and tackle new challenges throughout his remarkable career as a hugely influential jazz drummer, composer and educator.

The late Max Roach however remained eager to experiment and tackle new challenges throughout his remarkable career as a hugely influential jazz drummer, composer and educator. It’s Time is a prime example of Roach tackling a new project with an open-minded inclusiveness that gave importance to co-operation with other artists, while still asserting his own bold musical authority. On this unusual album, recorded in 1962 with an all-star sextet, Max is joined by a vocal choir conducted by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson and also features a solo spot by guest singer Abbey Lincoln. Max is credited as composer and orchestrator of all six pieces.
