Fantasize Then Realize
Some 30 years after first putting on a slab of vinyl in front of an audience Belgian DJ mainstay Red D presents his debut album called ‘Fantasize Then Realize’ under his Red Basics guise.
Artist: Red D Presents Red Basics
Genre: Electronica
Label: We Play House
Release date:
An experienced and versatile DJ if ever there is one, it was logical that his album takes in a wealth of influences from around the house and techno block and features some of his best musical friends and inspirations. From his _„ƒgo to_„Ž singer Lady Linn, to his musical friend and partner in FCL San Soda via Belgian stronghold Lefto, to his Detroit buddy Reggie Dokes: these are the people Red D has been working with and learning from for years on end.
The album features 12 new tracks and 3 tracks that appeared earlier on the E.P._„Žs Red Basics 1&2 and 3&4. The music ranges from the dreamy beatless title track to the sleazy spoken word _„ƒJust Like Hercules_„Ž up to the Larry Heard-inspired deepness _„ƒCompelled_„Ž and including the melancholy of _„ƒThe Larkin_„Ž and the Lady Linn feature _„Ž22 Shoulders_„Ž, the latter scheduled as single for early October _„ƒ22.
Locked down during the first months of the Covid 19 madness Red D had no more _„ƒI_„Žm too busy to get into the studio_„Ž excuses and all the inspiration gathered during the countless hours of DJ_„Žing and listening to records in the last 30 years simply poured out. Making track after track was daily (and nightly) business and after a while the idea of a full album simply came naturally. The next lockdowns were spent fine-tuning the tracks, coming up with lyrics and finalizing the tracklist.
The result is _„ƒFantasize Then Realize_„Ž, Red D_„Žs debut album and a testament to his sound and attitude.
About the artist
On the DJ block since 1992 – albeit a very small block in the first 10 years – if you are an amateur of that big play we call nightlife, chances are you either danced, got drunk or got annoyed while Red D was playing some records.
